AUTHOR BIO

I have been an avid reader since I was taught to read. I was the oldest of six children and reading was a getaway for me.

When my sister became sick she encouraged me to write my first book. That was in 2015 and I released my first book in March 2016.

I love to read, write and share books.

I am a wife, a mom, and a grandma, so the only problem I have is finding the time to get it done. I have been married to my husband for 23 years and he is my person and strongest supporter.

Then there’s her. The cellist whose music soothes the malignance of my existence.
For years I’ve lurked in the shadows watching her play.
Waiting. Anticipating the day I’ll come for her.

Her innocence tempts me. My blackened heart craves to ruin it, to smother her light with my darkness.

She’s the nucleus of my obsession… and my next victim.

He claimed me so unapologetically, and I surrendered willingly.
Together we found our place within the darkness.
We succumbed to wicked desires and tainted intentions.

And with every kiss, every touch, I allowed myself to fall deeper. Drowning within the seduction of a killer’s obsession.

Excerpt

A sharp rap on my open classroom door precedes the entrance of my new boss into my professional sanctuary. I can’t fault him for his dominance here and now. This is his building. I’m his employee who he’s contractually bound to supervise.
I still haven’t come up with a new plan to circumvent that twist of fate. Mostly because my wildest dreams have no place in my current reality.
Jesse perches on the edge of the student desk closest to mine, his forest-green eyes boring into me. That’s ironic, considering he couldn’t be bothered to make direct eye contact for the duration of our faculty meeting. He’s sure making up for it now. His gaze sweeps me from head to toe quickly, then he starts over again much, much slower.
I let him drink his fill because I’m hungry to do the same. The past five years have been so good to him. He’s removed his jacket and vest, leaving me to feast on a white dress shirt and red tie that look like they cost a pretty penny. The hint of his physique I noticed in the auditorium is much more pronounced without added layers. Scrawny until the night I left him, his arms now look as strong as they used to feel when they were wrapped around me tight. Biceps bulge against the fabric of his shirt. A row of buttons clings to his flat stomach then disappears beneath his belt. His smooth dress pants hug muscular thighs that used to thrust against me until pleasure I never knew was possible made me feel so high I wondered if I’d ever be able to come back down.
I’m down now, all right.
His heavy gaze touches me in all the places that the years haven’t been as kind to me.
I squirm in my seat, cursing Mama and Liz’s choice of dress. There’s no way to hide the bulge of my belly or the breasts that aren’t as perky as the last time he caressed them. At least that’s one thing going for me. He’s matured and aged like a fine wine, but any physical trait I used to possess that attracted him to me is long gone.
His voice sounds the same, even if it’s softer now than the last time I heard it. “I have imagined this moment in so many different ways over the past five years, but now that it’s here…I don’t rightly know what to say.”
I nod even though I never imagined this moment at all.

Kata Čuić lives in Pittsburgh, PA with her husband and three teens. No one told her life was gonna be this way. She holds a degree in Linguistics with a minor in Religious Studies from the University of Pittsburgh. Her plans of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon were foiled by OChem 1. Fortunately, she’d been making up stories in her head since the days of her imaginary friend, Choosy. Putting pen to paper, er…fingers to the keyboard…came surprisingly naturally after her aforementioned teens decided it was time for them to cut their respective cords.

Kata writes everything from angst-filled NA series to standalone rom-coms and has been known to dabble in a bit of paranormal on the free stories section of her website. She believes nice guys shouldn’t have to finish last (except in the bedroom where she prefers an alpha between the sheets but a gentleman in the streets), and that the surest way to a woman’s heart is through laughter and food.

Release Boost: Knox by Prescott Lane

From USA Today bestselling author Prescott Lane comes a standalone second-chance romance between a Hollywood heartthrob and the small-town girl he left behind…

Knox by Prescott Lane is now live!

Sexiest man alive, scene stealer, Hollywood headliner.

That’s what the world calls him. I’ve got more colorful names for him, all of which would be bleeped out if I was on air doing my radio show. Even if he hadn’t broken my heart, he would just be Knox to me. Not a famous movie star.

Just a boy.

The boy who grew to be my first love.

That is, until he ripped my heart out of my chest and stepped on it, live on the red carpet.

I thought that was all behind me. Until he decided to come waltzing back into my life. Granted, he looked hot as heck doing it, but that’s neither here nor there.

He may have acted alongside some of Hollywood’s hottest “it” girls, but being my leading man is a much harder part to win.

BELINDA

“Jesus fucking Christ, Belinda!”
“What?”
“Are you blind? Or deaf? Or dumb? Or what?”
I just stare at him.
Vann takes a step forward, forcing me to take a step back too. And my step is actually a step up. He points his finger at me. I swat it away.
“I’m gonna say this once, OK? Just once.”
“Say whatever the fuck you want. I don’t care what you do.”
He climbs one step. And so do I. “I like you,” he says, climbing another step. So I climb another step. “I like your filthy mouth, Belinda Baker. I like your stupid cowboy boots. I like your pink hair.” He keeps climbing the steps, so I have to keep climbing the steps. “I like the way you road-trip.”
“What?” I’m so confused.
He’s still climbing the steps and now my back is against my front door. “I like the way you wear that glitter shit on your eyelids in the summer. And the way you wear fingerless gloves in the winter even though you complain, every single day, that your fucking hands are cold. I like the way your hair smells when you show up for work and it’s still wet. I like the way you spin on your stupid stool in front of the shop cash register and glare at the giggly sorority girls like you can’t wait for them to wake up sober tomorrow and realize they just paid a hundred bucks for a My Little Mermaid tramp stamp. I like the way you bite your lip when you’re tattooing and the way you always have a smear of ink on the side of your face by the time you’re done.”
I reach up to touch my face.
“Yes, you have ink there, right now. And I love that. Because you don’t even care enough to check the mirror after you’re done with a client to notice that you always have ink smeared on your fucking face after you tattoo someone. I like the way you kick at stones when you walk down the street like you’re some troubled teen with pregnancy issues.”
“What?” I laugh.
“I like the way you bitch, and moan, and complain that no one takes you seriously. In fact, I love that no one takes you seriously, because then they’d figure out just how awesome you are, and I’m afraid you’ll actually find someone else before I can convince you that I am good for you. I want to date you, Belinda Baker. And you know what really pissed me off tonight?”
He pauses.
I become uneasy. “Am I supposed to guess?”
“I’m not mad that you fucked Tony in the alley. OK? That’s not it. I’m angry that you gave him the chance that I deserve.”
My stomach… falls. I don’t know of any other way to describe the feeling I get when I internalize those last few words of his. Except… falling. Like the world has just been yanked out from under me. Like I’m adrift in a sea of mistakes.
Because he’s absolutely right.
“Vann—”
“No,” he says, still seething. “No.” He holds up one finger. “I’m not done. You don’t get to talk yet. I’ve been holding this in all fucking night while you laughed and joked with my goddamned brother and his stupid yoked-out army friend. Who, by the way, was leering at you the entire time.”
“He was not!”
“He so was!”
“He was lying face down, Vann!”
“I just want to say this.” He pauses again and his chest is rising and falling very quickly, like he’s really upset. And his lips are falling into a deep frown. And his face is becoming flushed with heat. “I have earned my chance, Belinda. I didn’t become your friend because I wanted to get in your pants. I didn’t get you the apprentice job because I thought we’d be good together. I didn’t drive you and Tara two thousand miles to Key West because I thought maybe you’d finally see me for what I am. I did all those things because I like you. With no expectations whatsoever. I did all those things because I enjoy you. And when we’re together, life is fun. Even when we’re running from guys called Diablo, and smuggling people on boats, and especially when we’re just hanging out doing nothing. Saying nothing. That’s my favorite time with you. Because we’re at that place now. That place where we’re comfortable. And I keep waiting for you to see how good we are. And you just”—he shakes his head—“refuse! You just refuse to even consider me. But this asshole Tony Dumas shows up out of nowhere and you give him all the considerations. You say you don’t like him—”
“I don’t!”
“You say that, but then why, Belinda? Why do you give him all the chances he hasn’t earned?”

Excerpt

Noah puts a strand of hair behind my ear and gives me a sad smile. “I think your family is afraid I’m going to kidnap you.”
Before he can pull his hand away, I lean my cheek against it. “It wouldn’t be kidnapping if I went willingly, would it?”
He stares at me for a moment, looking like he’s fighting an internal battle. Suddenly, he leans forward but pauses momentarily with his lips barely touching mine. I’m not sure if I should move or not. On instinct, I close my eyes and wet my lips. With my eyes closed, all my senses are heightened. I feel the warmth of his breath, the smell of the grass, the sounds of the trickling water, and a bird chirping in the distance. I also hear Noah’s breathing. I can tell he’s as nervous as I am, with his hand slightly shaking. His hand suddenly becomes firm against my cheek, and he pulls me slightly closer.

RELEASE BOOST – From Scratch by Rachel Goodman

Title: From Scratch
Series: Blue Plate #1
Author: Rachel Goodman
Genre: Light Women’s Fiction/Chick Lit
Release Date: May 1, 2020

Blurb

A down-home, feel-good debut Southern romance, From Scratch explores one woman’s journey back home to Dallas, Texas, where her family is cooking up a plan that doesn’t quite suit her tastes…

Thirty-year-old Lillie Turner grew up with maple syrup stuck to her skin and bacon grease splattered on her clothes, courtesy of working in the family diner. Thank goodness she escaped all that when she moved to Chicago five years ago. Now a successful strategy consultant and newly engaged to a man who complements her like biscuits and gravy, she has everything she wants.

When an urgent phone call about her father’s health pulls Lillie back to Dallas, she soon learns it was a ruse to bring her home so she can run the diner she’d rather avoid and compete in the Upper Crust, an annual baking competition, with no option to withdraw. Lillie is furious and ready to run back to Chicago, but her father’s haggard appearance makes her wonder if he’s hiding something. Things go from bad to worse when Nick, her handsome ex and the only man she ever truly loved, reappears, looking as scrumptious as ever.

Lillie’s trip home forces her to question the path she’s chosen, find her place in the family she abandoned, and wonder if the life she left behind is what she really wants after all.

Excerpt

“Move around,” Nick says. “It’ll help flush out the lactic acid in your system.”
I nod, too exhausted to reply, and walk back and forth with my fingers linked behind my head. A breeze washes over my face, cooling me, but still my lungs are screaming. I can’t seem to suck in enough air.
Nick strides over to me. “You want your breathing to come from deep in your diaphragm. Right here,” he says, placing one hand on the curve of my back and the other just below my rib cage, applying pressure. “Can you feel that?” His gaze rakes over my face, painfully slow, as though he’s afraid to miss something.
Is he kidding? His palms are burning holes in my shirt, making me dizzy, and he wants to know if I can feel that? Suddenly I go from barely being able to retain oxygen in my lungs to a total inability to breathe at all. I should be shocked that after all this time a simple touch from him has the power to steal my breath, but after what happened between us at the Tipsy Teakettle, nothing surprises me anymore.
Stepping away, I pick up the water bottle lying on the ground by his feet and gulp some down, the liquid sloshing around in my stomach.
“Drink it slowly. Otherwise you’ll throw up,” he says, tugging on my ponytail. My heart trips in my chest at the way his voice dips with his playful scolding. Sticking out my tongue, I squirt some water at him and stretch my aching muscles. Nick does his own form of post run recovery, which involves some strange yoga poses mixed with light strength exercises. I squeeze my eyes shut when I hear him groan, the sound similar to those he once murmured during sex.
After he’s done, he uses the hem of his T-shirt to wipe his neck and forehead. His chest expands and retracts with his breathing, his skin glistening. I swallow thickly, watching a bead of sweat travel down the length of his torso and absorb into his mesh shorts. Everything about Nick is corded muscle and hard, chiseled angles and lines. My eyes drop to his hands resting on his hips, and I have an overwhelming urge to feel them on me. My whole body clenches as I remember exactly what those fingers are capable of.
A dog barks, snapping me out of my haze. I focus on the college-age guy playing fetch with a golden retriever across the park and wait for my heart rate to return to normal.
“It’s okay, you know.”
“What is?” I ask.
“To check me out,” Nick says, smug and without shame. “Don’t think I didn’t notice your little eye dance.”
I balk. “I wasn’t checking you out. You were doing those weird poses, and I was curious.”
He laughs, deep and sexy, erasing all of my common sense. His soles scuff against the gravel as he saunters toward me. He stops and stands so close I can feel the heat radiating off his body and see the faint scar above his left eyebrow—a casualty from back in my diner days when I accidentally opened the freezer door into his face.
When he speaks, his words send a shiver down my spine. “You forget, Lillie, I know your blush.”
My breath hitches, and his smile grows into that destructive grin that’s always been deadly to me. I force my eyes away, over to the other side of the parking lot where a woman is adjusting a set of ankle weights, back to the guy still tossing a tennis ball with his dog, down at my grungy shoelaces, anywhere other than at him.
“At least I used to,” Nick says, low and hoarse. “Before . . .”
He settles a hand on the crook of my neck, his thumb ghosting along my collarbone, and everything inside me ignites, alive and volatile. I look at him, and the intensity in his stare causes a fresh wave of heat to rush through me. I lean toward him, pulled by invisible fingers. His gaze flicks to my mouth, and as if on their own volition, my lips part. My breath comes in shallow gasps, my body humming in anticipation, waiting for him to pin me against my truck and kiss me the way he did at the Tipsy Teakettle. The way he used to.

Blurb

It hurts to look at you.
One, two, three, four, five . . . the lyrics to the hell inside your OCD head.
Not alive, not dead. In chains.
You’re broken, Amy. I did this. Can’t undo that.
Six years ago, I played a cruel joke on you in front of the whole school. The girl who made a happiness machine to put her happy inside my head. And I just ripped your heart out.
Now, I’m back to fix what I broke. I’m a psychologist, Amy. I can give you back the happiness I stole . . .

It’s all a lie. I’m not a doctor.
So what. She doesn’t get a choice.
So what if I buy the Victorian estate she lives in, blackmail her into fake therapy sessions.
So what if I get her addicted to my body like a painkiller, make her wish me dead.
I’m not the hero. I’m the monster. The orphan boy gone bad. Cursed, everything broken.
So what, when I discover a dark secret that makes her every inch off-limits, I don’t keep my hands off her.
Her bones are made from emeralds, she’s that precious.
I won’t stop chasing her until she’s mine.

But Amy is a pretty little liar, too. Her lie is the deadliest of them all.
Only one of us is telling the truth.
So bloody what. Nobody’s gonna believe her over me.

It’s her word . . .
     . . . against MINE.

You’re in a bad place, Amy. Where the monsters go. But it’s only in the bad places . . . I can get to you.

Excerpt

I look at her. It’s better than I expected. I thought it would be good, but the way Amy falls apart is maybe the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. It starts in her shoulders, where she seems to go weak, and at last, when her hand closes over the kid’s, when she takes the flowers, the weakness goes to her eyes.
Oh, all her tricks are gone now. She’s afraid and real and sad and crying into a pile of flowers that are already dying.
Amy looks at Max, and then at me. She can’t decide what to say or do. That kind of feeling makes me want to destroy things. But Amy doesn’t want to destroy anything. She wants to save Max, protect him from the big bad monster. That is what tears at her. Amy’s wondering where the danger is and I smell fear rolling off her in waves — such intense fear that she will do or say the wrong thing. She can’t guess what I’m up to. She’s wondering if I plan to give her a demonstration of what kind of monster I really could be. Remind her I have a fuck for a heart.
The flowers fall out of Amy’s delicate hands and onto the floor. She says to the kid, ‘Thank you, Max. You mind if you leave me and Shepherd alone? We’ve got some important adult matters to discuss. Boring stuff. Why don’t you go back to your mum? I’m sure she’s missing you.’
‘Okay, Mamy.’ Max trots out of Amy’s room, saying, ‘Smell you laters,’ with a skip in his step.
‘You wouldn’t use a kid? Surely?’ Amy whispers, her words hot as lava.
‘Yeah I would.’
‘Please don’t drag Max into this.’
And for the first time, she looks at me. Looks into my eyes with pure hatred. It’s what I wanted, and now I can’t remember why I wanted it so bad.
‘You downright refuse my help with your OCD, Amy. Don’t you get it? This shit is ruining your life.’
Her pale lips quiver. ‘Why can’t you leave me alone? Why is it so hard for you to just let me be?’
‘I’m not leaving you alone again.’
The response is automatic. Easy. Because god fucking forbid she withers and dies.
Can you save someone who’s already dying?
‘You don’t think I see?’ I say. ‘You’re a zombie, Amy. Still fucking beautiful, but half alive. You’ve given me no choice. If you don’t let me inside that pretty little head of yours, I’ll kick Max and his mum out onto the streets.’
Sometimes the stars don’t align so you have to make them. That’s what I’m doing with Amy. I’m playing God. Fuck Fate. Fuck us destined for a never. I’m making it happen.
Her mouth smacks open. I can see into the dark reaches of her. ‘You can’t.’
‘Yeah I can. Daisy, right? She’s poor. Comes from some derelict housing estate on the east side. I hear it’s bad for her at home. Her uncle or something . . . They can’t afford to pay for treatment — you know that? They’re behind on their payments. I’ve been letting her stay scot-free.’
‘I didn’t know you were doing that for Daisy . . . ’ Her voice is quiet like a mouse.
‘You don’t know a lot about me.’
I can’t help the pride that creeps in my voice. All that destruction, all that chaos I’m making for her. It’s like a lion lying a bird at her feet.
I always get what I want. The lies give me that power. That’s what got me addicted to them.
‘So, what’s it gonna be? Start therapy with me? Or you wanna go downstairs and help Daisy pack her bags?’
I’m a snake in a suit with dead eyes and a poison tongue, and Amy gives me a death stare. Her face is glazed for a split-second, like a China doll. Then she frowns. Her lips purse together. Her eyes are unblinking.
‘My friends are the one real thing in my life and you’re wrecking it,’ she says.
Wrecking things is what I do best.
In this moment, if her eyes were a weapon, the piercing look in them could cause serious annihilation. It’s like she’s a lioness and I just went into her territory, poked her, and she’s ready to attack.
‘This is emotional blackmail. You’re using my friend and little Max to get what you want. I never thought you could sink this low.’
It just about kills me laughing the way she looks at me. Pure fucking contempt on a cracker. If looks could kill, Amy would be more deadly than me. Her hate — that’s good all by itself, makes me run hot.
I lean closer, breathe her in. All vanilla and flower and bubble-gum. I give her a reassuring smile. Such a narrow margin between reassuring and predatory.
‘That’s what you want, isn’t it?’ she says. ‘You want me to hate you, because you think hate is stronger than love,’ she says right in my face.
‘Baby, they’re not opposites.’ I smile wickedly. ‘I think hate and lust are very close.’
It makes her eyes hot with hate. She’s not afraid of what I’ll do or say next. She’s thinking about killing me, maybe.
‘No, they are not opposites, but you’re wrong. Hate isn’t stronger,’ she snarls, spit in the corners of her mouth, and I don’t want her to stop. I want her to hate me a whole lot harder if that’s what this is.
Got your attention, now.
‘You want me to hate you, but hate is weak. Don’t you understand? I feel nothing. I don’t even hate you, anymore.’
‘You will,’ I say. ‘Soon enough, you’ll want me dead.’
But it blows my mind that she doesn’t already.
I straighten the gold seahorse around her neck. ‘Start making an effort to heal — or Daisy and her little kid get booted out. Hell, I’ll raise the prices so high nobody will be able to afford living here. Even those stuck-up rich girls. The roof over their heads rests on your shoulders. Sink or swim — your choice, Amy.’
I’m pulling her apart like candy floss. I’ve ruined her. I’ve burned down her dreams, hopes. Turned her wishes to ashes. And I’ll keep ruining her, keep destroying her. Maybe a deep part of me wants her to stop me.
‘Fine,’ she mutters.
She doesn’t hesitate. Doesn’t even calculate. That’s how bad she wants to save Daisy and Max from the big evil monster.
‘Just like that? No fight?’
‘I can’t cut off my heart. I’m not you.’ She looks down at her bare dainty feet. ‘I just want peace.’
Something you could kill your way to . . . that’s how I see peace, Amy.
Whole lot of silence after that.
Finally she says, ‘You’re vile.’
‘Tell me something I don’t already know.’
Her eyes are jewel green, hazed in mist. ‘I thought you were beautiful when I first saw you at the children’s home.’
She never flatters me, not since I hurt her. And a slow, sickening feeling comes on me.
‘Is that so?’
‘When I was fourteen, I used to love you.’ She says it all in a cold, steady voice, and it stabs like sharp icicles in my heart.
I pin her against the wall behind her, and snarl, ‘Used to love me?’
The air around us is heavy, rage brews in my gut.
‘Yes. Imagine that. Little fourteen-year-old me — in love and thinking about you.’
It’s the closest she’s come to showing me any real feelings. But she uses it in the past fucking tense.
‘What do you think that does to me, Amy, hearing you used to love me?’
‘What do you think it does to my heart?’
The problem is, that as good as it feels, as much as I want to lean back and get off on her submission, I can’t. Because she looks at me from under her eyelashes. Looks at me with my damned soul in her eyes. She never looks at me when I — no, I never let her look at me when I go over the edge of ecstasy. And now she won’t stop looking at me. It knocks me for six.
I clench my teeth, damp down the anger. Pride — that’s my cardinal vice. Not wrath. Pride. The one sin from which all others stem. Yeah, I can be the greedy man and the mean man, the envious and the enraged man, the licentious and the vicious man, but it all spirals down to pride. To the mortal sin of playing God. Of being a complete arse to the only girl I fucking love.
I keep my face neutral and fix my raw eyes at the butchered flowers on the floor.
The ache fades and the pleasure comes back so intense I want to eat her alive. For the first time I have to give chase, like a wolf after prey. I take her to her bed, and her tears are hot and delicious in my mouth.
This ‘thing’ between us, the chemistry, it’s fucking toxic. I know my body is some kind of painkiller, a poisonous addiction, a fix she needs when it hurts too bad. It’s like a knife to my chest but I’ll let her use me. Take whatever I can get. Give whatever she needs. I’ll feed her addiction.
I make her hurt, knowing I’m the one she needs to make the pain go away.
When I’m inside her, she’s crying so hard, her sobbing clutches at me so tightly, it feels like a supernova when I come.
I live my life in the Artic. Like a vampire, there’s no place for sunshine in my world.
Sunshine is a fucking killer to dead souls like me. All the same, I’m like a wasp to the biggest flame.
I don’t care if Amy hates me, forever. All I want is for her eyes to stay alive when I’m there. If she loved me again, would the darkness in my soul be converted? Or would the scar her soul has left in me, fade?

RELEASE BOOST – Keep the Beat by Kata Ĉuić

Title: Keep the Beat
A Band-Com for Romance Geeks
Author: Kata
Ĉuić
Genre: Romantic Comedy
Release Date: April 21, 2020

Blurb

Sophia Reston has never been bothered by the term band geek. The definition of geek is an enthusiast or expert in a particular field or activity. She loves marching band with all her heart, so the term is appropriate. Of course, one of the lesser known definitions of a geek is a carnival performer who is often billed as a wild man and whose act typically includes biting the head off a live chicken or snake. This definition also seems accurate since there is one snake Sophia fantasizes about maiming in the most deliciously torturous ways—her archnemesis, James Fossoway.

He has a stupid nickname, stupidly attractive muscles, a reputation for sleeping around, and he is a fellow band geek. Unfortunately for Sophia, he’s also an enthusiast of pushing all her buttons—and not in a good way.

When their rivalry leads to one final showdown during the competition for head drum major, the entire band is invested in the outcome. And James has some new tricks up his sleeve to win the last battle they’ll ever wage against each other.

Because, after years of pranks, James isn’t out for revenge. He wants Sophia’s heart.

Or maybe it’s just another dumb challenge.

“Why is it so hard to imagine that I could put the needs of the band before my own? You might hate my guts, but you can’t deny you know me. I love band, James. I’ll do anything to make our senior year successful.”
Silent laughter dances in his eyes. This is not the reaction I was hoping to get from calling him James again. “You mean, you’ll do anything to make your senior year successful.”
He never denies hating my guts. That’s noteworthy. Or not.
“It’s no secret or surprise every one of us wants the head drum major spot for ourselves. You, me, and the other guys are all going to be trying to get the votes. Don’t make it out to be some sort of covert operation that only I’m participating in.”
Only I am. And so are they.
Screw being an attorney. I should be a spy. I actually think I just said all that with a completely straight face.
“Is that right?” James nods, his gaze sweeping over my face like he’s trying to play hide-and-seek with all the lies piling up between us in this room.
“Yes, that’s right.” I struggle not to nod and raise my voice to the liar, liar, pants on fire octave.
“Okay.” James crosses his arms over his chest without stepping back, nearly knocking me off-balance. “Prove it.”
“Prove what?” That physical move was meant to reinforce this mental one. “That I love band?”
“Prove that we’re friends now.” He swings his finger in the miniscule distance between us.
Distance that feels stifling all of a sudden. Did the AC break down? Maybe I am dehydrated after all. I’m sweating while chills skitter down my spine.
“How?”
He rolls his eyes up and sticks his tongue in his cheek, making a big show of pretending to think about it when it’s obvious he already has a suggestion waiting to pounce out of his throat like a bloodthirsty tiger. When he focuses his intense blue eyes on me, a sneery sort of smile creeps along his lips until he looks like a lopsided Joker. It’s turning into a freaking circus in this tiny, tiny room.
“Kiss me.”

Trailer

Excerpt

Oh God, was that monster his cock or did he just stick a bloody cucumber down his trousers?
Furiously scrubbing her hair with the towel, Elizabeth felt her cheeks burning at the memory of the appendage straining against Hugh’s trousers.
Oh fuck, he’s huge … Did I do that to him?
The thought came out of nowhere and sent a pulse of heat straight down to her clit. Shocked, she immediately tried to brush it aside, but then couldn’t help remembering the way he’d been watching her, the hot predatory gleam in his eyes as he’d looked her over.
She knew that look. It was a hot look, dark and hungry. Sultry and very, very dangerous in the eyes of a young stud.
She’d seen it a lot when she was younger. On Saturday nights out when she went out to hit the town with her girlfriends. The clubs and bars would be thronged with packs of men who’d watch them with that same look. Like packs of wild dogs, eyeing up a fresh juicy bit of meat. Some of Patrick’s mates had given her that same look over the years too, when they’d had a few too many and were likely to get handsy…
But to see Hugh giving her that same look. No, it couldn’t be.
She’d known him and his mother for years, since he and Victor were kids in playschool. He was young enough to be her son. He was her friend’s son, and her own son’s best friend. And she was too old for him, much too old.
I’m old enough to be his mother.
“Tea’s up!”
Her heart leapt at the husky voice.
Aimlessly scrubbing her hair, she swung around to find Hugh standing in the doorway, holding two steaming mugs. The vision was as breath-taking as it had been when he had been standing in the doorway. The image of him, in those casual distressed jeans and tight shirt, radiating such raw masculinity, an alpha male at ease in his territory, made her long to be twenty years younger.
He placed them on the coffee table.
“Still lots of milk and three sugars, right?”
Placing the towel over the headrest of one of the two matching armchairs that encircled one side of the table, she sat in one corner of the sofa that sat opposite. Able to practically feel the heat of his eyes on her skin through her clothes, she picked up the mug and sipped. Sweet and just that little bit shy of hot. Perfect.
“Cheers.”
Elizabeth sipped and sipped, until she knew she couldn’t avoid talking to Hugh any longer without seeming rude. Then she mentally kicked herself. She was being ridiculous.
This was Hugh, just Hugh. It didn’t matter that he had grown into a smouldering and sexy-as-hell Adonis. It was still Hugh. She focused on that, trying to think of the little boy she’d use to watch play in the park.
“So, Jen and Mike took off to the sun and gave you run of the house, huh? Where’d they go?”
“Gran Canaria,” he answered, sitting beside her. As it was a two-seater, there was just enough room on the sofa for them both. Just. “Dad scored a big commission, so they rented a condo out there for the month to celebrate.”
“Lucky for some…” Elizabeth could feel herself shaking from his closeness. His tone was offhand and casual, but the way the smokiness of his voice curled around the words, he might as well have been whispering dirty fuck-me-talk right in her ear. “So, does this mean you’ve finished your pupillage?”
He picked his own mug up off the glass tabletop. “Yep, I’m now a fully certified and experienced lawyer.”
“That’s great.” Her breath caught as he drank, her eyes immediately fixing on the subtle movements of his throat as he swallowed. Then she noticed his eyes, those intense, baleful blue eyes, burning bright against the inky dark of his pupils, watching her over the rim. She quickly looked away. “What are you going to do now? Take a break here while your parents are away then head off back to the city? Get snapped up by some big firm and become a hotshot city lawyer? I could just see you in the Old Bailey. Parading around in your robe and wig, then hitting the streets with your expensive tailored suits and flash super car. You were always a flash git, even when you and Victor were kids.”
“Ouch,” he mocked a hurt look. Then, putting the mug down, he rounded on her, the force of his presence enough to have her edging back into the sofa. “No, actually I’m here to stay. I took a job with a small firm down in Taunton. And I’m not involved in criminal law. I handle insurance.”
“Insurance?”
“Yeah, insurance, and a bit of property law. It’s less glamorous but steadier.” As he spoke, Elizabeth couldn’t help noticing he was edging closer. “And my clients aren’t likely to throw acid in my face if I can’t get them off.”
Their growing proximity had awareness tingling through her arms, and heat gathering in the pit of her belly. “Fair point. So, you’ve just moved back into your old room? Aren’t you a bit … err big for that now?”
“A little.” He teased and actually winked at her. “That’s why I’m kipping in the spare room while I look for a place of my own.”
“To rent?”
“Afraid so.”
He was getting closer, too close.
“Well it shouldn’t take long to find somewhere, if you know where to look. You know, there are some very nice places over my way.” Fuck, why had she said that.
“I remember.” His voice lowered, growing hotter like the space between them. “You’ll have to show me around, give me the grand tour.”
In spite of herself, Elizabeth’s heart leapt at the idea.
“Sure, pop round anytime you’re free and I’d be happy to show you the neighbourhood.” God, what was she saying? She really needed to stop talking now. But she couldn’t stop herself, it had just come out as her mind swam with the thought of him and her, alone, that body pushing up against her, all hard and male, his wicked mouth doing unspeakable things.
No, this wasn’t good. She needed to get things onto a safer ground. “I know Victor would love it. You haven’t seen him in ages. And it’s such a great place to start a family, I’m sure your girlfriend will love it.”
He smirked, as if he could see how close she was to snapping. And revelled in it. “Well, that sounds great, all I need to do now is to find a wife.”
“Oh, so there’s no one…”
“Oh, there’s someone,” he said. “There has been for a long time. She just doesn’t know it, yet.”
Elizabeth felt a lump developing in her throat, her heart racing like a bird in a cage. “Well, I’m sure she’s a very special girl.”
“She is, but I’m not really interested in girls.” He closed the gap, his big hand moving to gently rest on her denim encased thigh. “I prefer more mature women. Women who know what they want and how to get it.”
She wanted him.
Wanted to touch him, taste him, bite him.
Wanted to lick her way down those delicious abs, tear those damn jeans off with her teeth, and suck his big fucking cock until-
He kissed her hungrily, all heat and instinct.

I can’t believe we’re even having this conversation. “You’re not the boss of me, Easton. I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings about your friend doing the piercing, but it’s not the end of the world. And it would be money all the same if you let me pay. Why are you being so stubborn about this?”
“Not the boss of you,” he repeats, a slow smirk curving his features. His body turns to face me, towering over me when he straightens to full height. “I seem to recall that differently, especially when we’re in your bedroom and you’re begging me to bury my cock deeper inside you. Hmm. Have you forgotten how much you moan my name when I lick you, or how you pull my hair to go faster, or plead for me to fuck you just the way I know you like?”
My thighs press together as heat sweeps over my body. He knows what he’s doing because he chuckles like this amuses him. But I don’t find his mood swings funny. “What does that have to do with anything?”
He leans closer, brushing his lips against my ear as he speaks. “I should have been the one to give you what you wanted today because I know what you want. Just like I know what you sound like when you come, what it feels like when you squeeze my cock with that tight pussy of yours, and how loud you get when you don’t have to hold back. You want freedom, Piper. You always have.”
When he draws back, I’m stunned speechless. He takes advantage of it and shoots me a wink, causing my lips to part. He’s never winked before. And it’s … wow. Between those words and that gesture, I’m not sure I can properly fathom a response, and he knows it. Which is why, this time, he walks away first.

“He smirked, his eyes heating. “Our rooms are very similar.”
That was true. Not only our walls were covered with the layers of our souls, but my room was also messy, so many papers, sticky notes, and art supplies lying all around. I wouldn’t change a single thing about it.
“You’re right.”
“That was why I felt…” He stopped mid-sentence, taking another drag of his cigarette.
My body leaned closer to him on its own. The mood between us shifted once more. “What?”
He locked his jaw and looked away. “It doesn’t matter.”
“It matters to me,” I whispered. Without conscious thought, I moved and covered his hand that rested on the mattress.
He flinched and looked at my hand, frowning. I feared he would pull his hand away, but he didn’t. “Why?”
My pulse beat madly in my throat. “Because… Because you matter to me.” I tightened my grip around his hand, feeling exposed. My eyes went to his scar, and I wished I could touch it, definitely not for the first time. “I want to know everything about you.”
His breathing sped up. “Everything?”
“Everything.”
He sucked in a quick breath, taking in every line of my face with undiluted hunger. He balanced his cigarette on the edge of the ashtray and met my gaze.
“I felt at peace there,” he said hoarsely. “I felt like…”
I leaned even closer to him. “Yes?”
He swallowed. “Like I belonged there.”
